The cheeseburger. An American institution. A humble dish that brings together both the young and the old. We’re spanning the generations here at Church of Poutine.
Cheeseburgers are more American than apple pie. And a cheeseburger with fries is a meal that every single American can relate to. So, it seemed pretty obvious to us that we should make a poutine out of it.
We’ve been on a bit of a picnic theme with some of our recent poutines, which might have something to do with spring being so thoroughly sprung. But a selection of picnic poutines would have been utterly incomplete without the inclusion of the cheeseburger.
We start, as we often do, with our traditional, classic Canadian poutine. Then we put a ⅓ pound, hand formed, grass-fed and griddled burger on it. We melt some sharp cheddar, because aged cheddar and cheddar cheese curds belong together. We then top it with the classic lettuce, tomato and onion that accompanies every great burger. As a bonus, we included a couple of our home-made hot bread’n’butter pickle chips. Finally, because this is texas, we added the only condiment worth troubling yourself over, yellow mustard.
As a dish, this meal perfectly encompasses everything that’s great about North American cuisine. Is it a burger? Yes. Does it come with fries, like any burger should? Absolutely. Is it poutine? You bet your ass it’s poutine. You’re gonna love this one, we guarantee it.
